Handoff Pack

A handover pack route that leaves the next team with the key settings, checks, and machine notes.

How Handoff Pack supports a sheet metal cell week

Handoff Pack is for sites where the next shift, service team or supervisor needs the right machine information in one place. It covers the key settings, checks and notes that should stay with the laser cell instead of living in separate messages.

State the sheet grade, current nozzle, gas in use, and which shift is taking over next. Gauteng dust, coastal corrosion, power cuts, and overnight dispatch pressure all change what the incoming team must inspect on a fibre laser cell. A useful handoff starts with the machine state at that moment, not a chain of mixed messages.

Include clear machine photos from the control, cutting head area, pallet section, and any active alarm screen. The pack should travel with a short printed checklist or saved PDF so the next operator, technician, or supervisor can confirm settings before the first nest runs. That small record helps prevent scrap, nozzle damage, and repeated phone calls at shift change.

Shift-change machine record set

The handoff pack captures the running recipe, unresolved faults, part quality notes, and any spare items that were fitted during the shift. It should also name the exact cell, material thickness, assist gas, and whether pierce quality or edge finish changed during production. That gives the next team one reference point when they restart, troubleshoot, or sign off a job.

Link the Handoff Pack to the matching Cells note, the current Kerf entry, and any open service item before the next shift begins. Recheck consumables, machine hours, and alarm history before sending updates through the contact form. Add one current cell image and identify the machine by path name so the record stays tied to the correct installation.

  • Active settings recorded before handover
  • Alarm status captured with time noted
  • Consumables used during the shift

Conditions affecting the next shift

A handoff for a Johannesburg plant may need notes on dust around extraction points, while Durban sites often need closer attention to rust prevention and cabinet cleaning. If dispatch deadlines, generator changeovers, or weekend staffing will affect the next team, record that in the pack with the machine status. The point is to leave the incoming crew with operating facts, not guesswork.

When power has tripped during cutting, note where the sheet stopped, whether the programme was resumed, and if the cut face was checked afterwards. Salt-heavy air can shorten cleaning intervals on optics covers, while inland dust may build up faster around sensors and rails. Those site conditions should sit next to the machine notes so service and production read the same record.

Details worth capturing before sign-off

Brief Handoff Pack with floor photos, shift timing, and anything already holding production back. Keep the subject line specific.

Write the handoff while the shift details are still visible on the control and the parts are still near the cell. Include material type, nest name, cut quality concerns, lens or nozzle changes, and anything still waiting on inspection. That leaves a usable record for production, maintenance, and supervision on the next rotation.
