Handoff Template

Use this handover template to record machine condition at shift change on an HSG sheet metal cell. It gives operators, maintenance staff, and production supervisors one place to note cut faults, gas status, and jobs still waiting on inspection.

How Handoff Template fits a plant handover week

Handoff Template gives teams a structured way to pass machine status, cut issues, and pending checks between shifts. It suits South African laser floors where production, maintenance, and operators share the same cell.

Record the grade of sheet, thickness, assist gas in use, and any nozzle changes before the next crew takes over. Gauteng dust, Durban humidity, power cuts, and late carrier collections can all change what must be checked on an HSG cell. Add utilities status, alarm history, and the last accepted part so production, maintenance, and operators read the same handover.

Add clear photos of the bed, nozzle area, chiller display, and any sheet left on the shuttle table. One image of a poor edge or pierce mark is often more useful than a long message when the next shift is trying to judge whether settings moved or consumables need changing.

Shift-change records that matter

A good handover note should show what was cut, what stopped production, and what still needs sign-off. List the program name, sheet count completed, alarms seen on screen, and any spare parts taken from stock so the next team is not guessing at midnight.

Link this handover sheet to any open issue on the cell and note whether a technician visit, spare pack, or gas refill is still pending.

  • Machine status logged by shift
  • Nozzle, lens, and gas checks noted
  • Pending snags listed for follow-up

Checks before the next shift

Note delivery timing, forklift access, extraction status, and whether utilities were stable during the shift. Many South African plants are running around scheduled loads, shared maintenance crews, and mixed production lines, so a short note on access and stoppages can prevent the next team from losing time.

Near the coast, moisture can show up in air lines and on stored sheet if checks are skipped. Inland sites often deal with dust around covers, rails, and sensors, while generator changeovers may reset equipment or interrupt first-off inspection. Record those conditions against the job, not as a separate afterthought.

What to capture before clock-off

Use this handover note for site photos, delivery timing, utilities status, and any snags already picked up. Keep the subject line clear and factual.

Complete the template before the outgoing team leaves the machine area. Include open quality points, utility concerns, courier or delivery updates, and any parts waiting for approval so the morning shift receives a useful record instead of piecing events together from WhatsApp messages.
